Big Boost to India’s Defence Strength

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Rajnath Singh, approved major defence proposals on March 27, 2026. These proposals are worth around ₹2.38 lakh crore and aim to strengthen India’s military capabilities across all forces.

Key Approvals for the Indian Army

The Indian Army received approval for several important systems, including:

  • Air Defence Tracked System
  • Armoured Piercing Tank Ammunition
  • High Capacity Radio Relay
  • Dhanush Gun System
  • Runway Independent Aerial Surveillance System

These systems will improve the Army’s defence and communication abilities.

  • The Air Defence Tracked System will provide real-time monitoring and control of air threats.
  • The High Capacity Radio Relay will ensure strong and reliable communication.
  • The Dhanush Gun System will improve long-range attack capability with better accuracy.
  • The Surveillance System will help monitor enemy movement without needing a runway.

Major Boost for the Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force will receive advanced equipment and upgrades, including:

  • Medium Transport Aircraft
  • S-400 Air Defence Missile System
  • Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft
  • Upgrade of Su-30 engine systems
  • The Medium Transport Aircraft will replace older aircraft like AN-32 and IL-76 and improve airlift capacity.
  • The S-400 missile system will protect against long-range air threats.
  • The Remotely Piloted Aircraft will carry out attack missions and intelligence operations.
  • The Su-30 upgrades will increase aircraft life and improve performance.

Support for the Indian Coast Guard

The Indian Coast Guard will receive Heavy Duty Air Cushion Vehicles (hovercrafts).

These will be used for:

  • High-speed coastal patrol
  • Search and rescue missions
  • Reconnaissance operations
  • Transport of personnel and supplies

Record Defence Investments

In the Financial Year 2025–26:

  • 55 proposals worth ₹6.73 lakh crore have been approved
  • 503 contracts worth ₹2.28 lakh crore have been signed

This is the highest ever defence approval and procurement record in a single financial year.
