Tata Advanced Systems Lands Indian Army Contract to Modernise Pinaka MLRS
Tata Advanced Systems has bagged a fresh order from the Indian Army to refurbish and upgrade first-generation Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) along with their Battery Command Posts (BCPs).
The order was formally presented during a ceremony in New Delhi, marking another solid chapter in the Army–industry partnership under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. As part of the deal, Tata Advanced Systems will work closely with the Army’s 510 Advance Base Workshop (ABW) to breathe new life into operational Pinaka units and keep them at peak combat fitness.
How the Upgrade Will Roll Out
The overhaul programme kicks off with a pilot phase, where selected Pinaka launchers and BCPs will undergo joint refurbishment by Tata Advanced Systems and 510 ABW. Once this phase proves its mettle, the Corps of EME’s 510 ABW will take charge of upgrading the remaining systems. Tata Advanced Systems will continue to back the effort with essential spares, technical expertise, and stringent quality oversight—ensuring minimal downtime and maximum battlefield uptime.
Powering India’s Indigenous Artillery
Developed in collaboration with DRDO, the Pinaka MLRS stands tall as the backbone of India’s rocket artillery strength. With close to 80% indigenous content, the system is a loud statement of self-reliance. Tata Advanced Systems has already delivered a significant number of Pinaka launchers that are actively deployed with the Indian Army, cementing its role in India’s land warfare ecosystem.
Built for the Battlefield
Pinaka isn’t just about firepower- it’s about smart firepower. The system can unleash intense, accurate rocket salvos in all weather conditions. Mounted on a high-mobility 8×8 vehicle, it boasts automated shoot-and-scoot capability, allowing rapid firing and swift relocation- crucial for survival and dominance in modern combat zones.
Why This Deal Matters
This upgrade initiative will extend the operational life of first-generation Pinaka systems, sharpen their reliability, and keep them combat-ready as battlefield demands evolve. More than a maintenance contract, the order signals the Indian Army’s trust in homegrown industry and highlights Tata Advanced Systems as a key pillar in India’s artillery modernisation journey.
