SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR UPSC CDS 2025
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) uses a multi-phase process called the CDS 2025 Selection Process to assess applicants' aptitude, intelligence, and physical fitness for a career in the defence services.
Written Examination:
The initial round is a written test involving multiple-choice questions. Topics covered are English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. It is conducted separately for each of the four academies (IMA, INA, AFA, and OTA). The candidates are required to secure a mark above the cut-off in each topic to be eligible for the second round.
SSB Interview/Personality Test:
Shortlisted candidates based on the written examination are called to the Services Selection Board (SSB) for the interview and personality test. This phase tests officer-like qualities, leadership ability, and suitability overall for a defense job. The SSB process involves group discussions, individual interviews, and personal interviews to assess candidates' mental ability, team spirit, and communication skills.
Document Verification:
Shortlisted applicants are required to submit their original documents for verification, which are educational certificates, age proof, and other qualifications. Document verification confirms that applicants satisfy all the eligibility criteria established by UPSC.
Medical Examination
After the SSB interview, the candidates appear for a detailed medical examination by a Military Hospital. The examination ensures the candidate is physically and medically fit according to defense service standards. Medical fitness standards are different for the academy but overall measure height, weight, eyesight, and general well-being.
Final Merit List:
The last step of selection is making a merit list on the basis of candidates' performance in the written test, SSB interview, and medical examination. Seats in the preferred academies (IMA, INA, AFA and OTA) are allotted to the candidates based on their ranks and preferences.
