Through the Technical Entry Scheme (TES), students from a science background get a great chance to become officers in the Indian Army without having to appear for the NDA written exam.
Let’s understand everything step by step, how to check the TES-55 Merit List, what it means, and what the next stages in the selection process look like, simply and easily.
About the 10+2 TES Entry
TES entry is only for male candidates who have completed their 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Maths (PCM) and have scored above the minimum JEE Mains cut-off set by the Indian Army. There is no written exam for this entry. Candidates are shortlisted based on their JEE Mains score, followed by the SSB interview and medical examination.

How the Merit List is Prepared
Now that the merit list is out, let’s understand what it actually means.
The TES-55 merit list is prepared based on the performance in the SSB Interview and medical fitness status. Earlier, JEE Mains scores were used for shortlisting the candidates for SSB; however, JEE scores are not included in the final merit list.
Only those candidates who have:
- Successfully cleared the SSB interview, and
- Been declared medically fit,
are included in the final merit list.
The merit order will determine which candidates are selected for the joining letter to the IMA, Dehradun. However, getting your name on the merit list doesn’t automatically get you a joining letter; it depends on the available vacancies, plus medical clearance.
Steps to Check the TES-55 Merit List
If you want to check whether your name is on the list, here’s how you can do it:
- Visit the official website – www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.
- On the homepage, click on the ‘Officers Entry Apply/Login’ tab.
- Find the link that says ‘MERIT LIST FOR 10+2 TES-55 COURSE’.
- Click on it, and a PDF file will open.
- You can either view it online or download it for future reference.
- Search your name or roll number in the PDF using the search function (Ctrl+F).
That’s it. If your name is on the list, congratulations. You’ve crossed a big milestone in your journey to becoming an Army officer.
What Happens After the Merit List
Once the merit list is declared, the further stages begin. The candidates' names listed in it will be called for joining instructions for the pre-commission training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
Here’s what to keep in mind:
- The joining letters are issued in accordance with the merit order and availability of vacancies.
- The candidates should report to IMA on the date as mentioned in the joining letter.
- You will be put through a four-year training regimen that includes one year at the IMA and three years at a selected engineering college.
- You will be commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army after completing your training, along with a B.Tech degree.
Documents Required at the Time of Joining
Make sure you keep the following documents ready when you receive your joining letter:
- Original 10th and 12th mark sheets and certificates.
- Original JEE Mains scorecard.
- Medical fitness certificate issued by a military hospital.
- ID proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, etc.).
- Passport-size photographs.
- A character certificate from your school or college.
Always double-check your joining instructions to ensure you don’t miss any important documents or deadlines.
A Word of Motivation
Getting your name on the TES-55 merit list is a big achievement. It shows the hard work, discipline, and confidence you’ve built, especially during the SSB interview. Not everyone makes it this far, so reaching this stage itself says a lot about your effort.
And if your name isn’t on the list this time, don’t lose heart. Every attempt teaches you something and makes you better for the next one. You still have other entries like NDA, CDS, or AFCAT to chase your dream. The goal remains the same: to wear the olive green and serve the nation with pride.
