India Deploys Declassified Joint Doctrines for Cyberspace Operations and Amphibious Warfare

As a major push towards augmenting joint war-fighting capabilities, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, formally released the declassified versions of the Joint Doctrines for Amphibious Operations and Cyberspace Operations. The announcement was made in the national capital during the Chiefs of Staff Committee meeting.

The decision is in line with India's desire to enhance transparency, enlarge accessibility, and foster shared comprehension of joint concepts of operations among military professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders.

Enhancing Cyber Defence and Offence

The Joint Doctrine for Cyberspace Operations establishes a unified approach towards securing the country's cyber space. It unifies both offensive and defensive cyber means and ensures end-to-end coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The doctrine gives utmost importance to threat-centric planning, strong resilience processes, sharing intelligence in real-time, and creating a combined cyber force that can counter new challenges.

Increasing Amphibious Warfare Readiness

The Joint Doctrine for Amphibious Operations is a document that serves as a guideline for synchronising maritime, air, and land assets in the conduct of operations from the sea to the shore. It emphasises interoperability, rapid deployment, and comprehensive joint force application to accomplish strategic goals on the land through maritime manoeuvre.

Expanding the Joint Doctrine Framework

In addition to these publications, the CDS has also begun to develop new doctrinal documents encompassing cutting-edge and specialized areas of war. These are Military Space Operations, Special Forces Operations, Airborne and Heliborne Operations, Integrated Logistics, and Multi-Domain Operations. When finalized, these documents will provide a common nomenclature and coherent guidelines so that joint missions may be planned accurately and executed effectively.

The fresh declassified doctrines have been made available for public viewing on the official website of Integrated Defence Staff: https://ids.nic.in/content/doctrines.
