INS Trikand Anchors at Port Louis Ahead of Mauritius National Day Celebrations

The formidable Indian Naval Ship Trikand, a stealth-configured frigate serving under the Indian Navy’s maritime command, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius, on 10 March 2026 while conducting its ongoing operational patrol across the South-West Indian Ocean Region. The visit forms part of the vessel’s extended deployment designed to sustain India’s strategic presence across vital sea corridors.

During its stay in the Mauritian capital, INS Trikand is scheduled to take part in the 58th Mauritius National Day festivities on 12 March 2026. The ship will contribute a ceremonial marching contingent accompanied by a naval band, while its embarked helicopter will execute a fly-past during the grand National Day Parade at Champ de Mars, Port Louis—a moment expected to add a distinct maritime flourish to the celebrations.

Commanding Officer Captain Sachin Kulkarni will also engage in official interactions with senior representatives of the Mauritian government as well as key officials from the Mauritius Coast Guard. These diplomatic courtesies are intended to deepen professional camaraderie and reinforce cooperative naval dialogue between the two maritime partners.

Beyond ceremonial appearances, the visit encompasses a spectrum of professional and cultural engagements. Personnel from both sides will participate in cross-training sessions, friendly sporting encounters, and outreach initiatives aimed at community engagement. Such exchanges cultivate familiarity at the operational level while nurturing goodwill among sailors and citizens alike.

At its core, the port call reflects a broader strategic purpose. By facilitating professional interaction and collaborative exercises, the deployment of INS Trikand seeks to amplify maritime cooperation, sharpen operational compatibility between the two forces, and reinforce the enduring bilateral relationship shared by India and Mauritius across the waters of the Indian Ocean.
