Defence Ministry Approves 'Dharashakti’ EW System
In a significant stride towards fortifying India’s battlefield communication and indigenous defence capabilities, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has sanctioned the large-scale induction of the ‘Dharashakti’ Integrated Electronic Warfare (EW) System for the Indian Army.
Worth ₹5,150 crore, the cutting-edge system is intended to equip the Army with better electromagnetic spectrum control, providing safe and robust communication in sophisticated operating environments.
Completely indigenously developed, Dharashakti integrates communication (COM) and non-communication (Non-COM) electronic warfare capabilities. It allows the forces to detect and intercept enemy signals, monitor them, and neutralize them while protecting India's own tactical communications networks.
Designed for desert and plain environments like the Samaghat and Shatrughat regions, Dharashakti excels in hot-weather, open-country operations—ensuring dependable performance in areas where long-range visibility and high signal clarity are required.
The system has two integrated components:
- The COM segment handles radio-frequency interception, analysis, and secure data transmission.
- The Non-COM segment handles radar detection, jamming, and sophisticated electronic countermeasures.
Enhancing its main features, Dharashakti is also fitted with an Electro-Optical (EO) suite with high-resolution visual and infrared sensors, providing real-time surveillance, target identification, and threat assessment even in adverse weather conditions.
Its radio communication network has long-range transmitters with Electronic Counter-Countermeasure (ECCM) technology to ensure secure, uninterrupted communication even during enemy jamming or interference efforts.
Defence officials pointed out that the induction of Dharashakti is a testament to India's increasing technological independence and represents the huge stride the country has taken in the achievement of Atmanirbharta in defence production. Upon deployment, the Dharashakti system will enhance India's electronic warfare preparedness, which will bolster the Army's combat superiority in sensitive border areas and provide a decisive advantage in future tactical and strategic operations.
