DRDO Strengthens India’s Tech Edge with Focus on Electronics Innovation

The Defence Research and Development Organisation is making waves at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave - ESTIC 2025 being held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from November 3 to 5, 2025.

The national conclave, with the theme 'Viksit Bharat 2047: Pioneering Sustainable Innovation, Technological Advancement, and Empowerment', will assemble some of the finest scientific minds, industry leaders, and innovators who will shape India's technological future.

PM Modi Inaugurates ESTIC 2025

The prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the event and launched the historic ₹1 Lakh Crore Research, Development and Innovation Scheme Fund for establishing a vibrant private sector-led research ecosystem and for making India a global hub in science, technology, and innovation.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to foster R&D collaborations that spur innovation-driven growth and empower the young minds to take India's technological capabilities to the next level.

DRDO at the Heart of Semiconductor Innovation

Among the major contributors towards ESTIC 2025, DRDO is one of the key organizers and leads the thematic session on ‘Electronics & Semiconductor Manufacturing’. Chaired by Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, this session is scheduled to take place on November 5, 2025, and shall bring forth India’s latest standing concerning semiconductor technology and defense-grade electronics.

Semiconductors form the heart of modern technology: everything from defense and space to communication and healthcare systems. DRDO has made remarkable progress in this domain with indigenous development of techniques for the production of 4-inch Silicon Carbide wafers and fabrication of Gallium Nitride (GaN) High Electron Mobility Transistors capable of handling up to 150W.

These breakthroughs reflect India's developing capability to build a self-reliant semiconductor ecosystem, reducing dependency on imports and strengthening the nation's strategic technological base.

Experts and Leaders Join Hands

The conclave is hosting more than 3,000 delegates, including Nobel laureates, eminent scientists, innovators, and policymakers from the country and abroad. They will share and discuss advancements in 11 identified areas, starting from Quantum Science and Artificial Intelligence to Space Technologies and Advanced Manufacturing.

Participants in the panel discussions include distinguished DRDO officials such as Smt. Suma Varughese, Dr. Ramalingam Balamuralikrishnan, and Dr. Somna Mahajan, sharing insights into emerging trends and breakthroughs in microelectronics, materials science, and defence research.

Building the Future of 'Viksit Bharat 2047' Through the leadership by the DRDO at ESTIC 2025, this organization is reiterating its commitment to accelerating India's scientific growth and technological independence. Its contributions to semiconductor innovation align perfectly with the national vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047', opening up all avenues towards a future powered by Innovation, Sustainability, and Self-reliance.
