DRDO Pralay missile salvo launch

DRDO Executes Successful Salvo Launch of Two Pralay Missiles Off Odisha Coast

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully carried out a salvo launch of two Pralay missiles from the same land-based launcher off the Odisha coast, marking a significant achievement in the missile’s ongoing user evaluation trials.

The back-to-back launches were conducted at approximately 10:30 AM on December 31, 2025, demonstrating the system’s capability for rapid successive firing. Both missiles precisely followed their planned flight paths and achieved all designated mission parameters, reaffirming the platform’s accuracy, reliability, and operational preparedness.

The trials were monitored in real time by tracking systems deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, while onboard telemetry systems installed on naval assets near the impact zone confirmed the successful completion of terminal-phase objectives.

About the Pralay Missile

Pralay is an indigenously developed, solid-fuel, quasi-ballistic missile engineered for high-precision conventional strike missions. Featuring advanced guidance and navigation technologies, it is capable of delivering various warhead configurations against both tactical and strategic targets with exceptional accuracy.

The successful salvo firing validates the missile’s ability to execute rapid launches—a crucial requirement in modern combat scenarios that demand quick response and saturation strike capabilities.

Collaborative Development and Trials

The missile has been developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, with support from multiple DRDO laboratories, including DRDL, ASL, ARDE, HEMRL, DMRL, TBRL, R&DE (Engineers), and ITR. System integration for the trials was carried out in partnership with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

Senior DRDO officials, along with representatives from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and industry partners, were present to witness the trials.

Leadership Reactions

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces, Defence PSUs, and Indian industry, stating that the successful trials firmly establish the credibility of the Pralay missile system.
Dr Samir V. Kamat, Secretary (Defence R&D) and Chairman DRDO, noted that the results reflect the system’s readiness for early induction into the Armed Forces.

Strategic Impact

The successful salvo launch significantly strengthens India’s conventional precision-strike capability and highlights the nation’s advancing missile technology ecosystem. It represents a major step toward operational deployment and reinforces India’s commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing.
