DRDO Executes Back-to-Back Successful Flight-Tests of ‘Pralay’ Missile

In a resolute demonstration of indigenous technological finesse, the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) orchestrated two successive and triumphant flight-tests of the ‘Pralay’ missile system on July 28 and 29, 2025, from the revered Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, situated along the tempestuous coastline of Odisha. These launch endeavours formed a crucial segment of the User Evaluation Trials—designed meticulously to authenticate both the extremities of the system's operational reach. The missiles veered faithfully along their programmed courses, consummating their flight arcs with razor-edge accuracy—resoundingly affirming all mission imperatives. Every subcomponent of the system functioned in orchestrated synchrony, its integrity confirmed through telemetry harnessed by an array of sophisticated sensors stationed strategically by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), including maritime instrumentation platforms stationed proximate to the intended terminal zone.

‘Pralay’, a homegrown missile of imposing pedigree, is sculpted from a robust solid-propellant configuration and imbued with quasi-ballistic character. It brandishes cutting-edge navigational matrices and guidance schematics, affording it exceptional target fidelity. Versatile in its destructive capabilities, the missile can ferry an assortment of warheads tailored for diverse tactical exigencies. This formidable deterrent was conceived and actualized under the aegis of the Research Centre Imarat, with vital contributions from a consortium of DRDO establishments—namely the Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Advanced Systems Laboratory, Armament Research & Development Establishment, High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), and the Integrated Test Range. Bolstering this endeavour were strategic alliances with industrial behemoths Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, as well as a network of ancillary manufacturers and MSMEs scattered across the national fabric.

These seminal trials drew the keen observation of DRDO’s high-ranking scientists, liaisons from the Indian Air Force and Indian Army, and representatives of the defence-industrial matrix, all of whom bore witness to this orchestrated spectacle of indigenous precision and power.

Hon’ble Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, in an official commendation, hailed DRDO, the Armed Forces, and the private defence ecosystem for the test-firing success, noting that the missile's incorporation of avant-garde technologies shall significantly fortify India’s defensive architecture against contemporary threats.

Dr Samir V Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, lauded the synergistic efforts of all stakeholders. He affirmed that the conclusive fruition of these Phase-1 trials serves as a pivotal threshold, catalyzing the imminent formal induction of the ‘Pralay’ missile system into India’s Armed Forces.
