Likabali, Arunachal Pradesh – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi recently inspected the Drone Excellence Centre at Likabali Military Station, marking another leap in the Indian Army’s push towards modern, technology-driven warfare.
The visit reaffirmed the Army's resolve towards the "Year of Tech Absorption" and the larger vision of the "Decade of Transformation". At the facility, General Dwivedi inspected in-house developed drones and advanced technologies being worked upon to enhance tactical and strategic capabilities. Located in a strategically sensitive area, the facility is focused on drone manufacturing, training, and deployment for operations, gearing up soldiers to integrate the systems directly at the unit level for increased battlefield readiness.
Appreciating the innovative spirit among troops, COAS called for more progress to keep the Army ahead in the changing paradigm of contemporary warfare. He also outlined long-term planning to fit every infantry battalion with special drone platoons, whereas artillery regiments will be supported by counter-drone systems and loiter munitions.
Drones are being seen more and more as game changers, providing unprecedented capabilities in surveillance, reconnaissance, logistical support, and even life-saving medical evacuation. This program is following worldwide trends where unmanned systems are becoming indispensable instruments in traversing challenging terrain and high-risk combat missions.
The visit to Likabali reflects the Army's vision for technology assimilation, founded on indigenous innovation. Through the incorporation and development of such capabilities, the Indian Army seeks to achieve a decisive advantage, guaranteeing operational superiority and resilience in a time where technology determines the battlefield.
