Indian Army Leaves for Indo-US Joint Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2025 in Alaska
An Indian Army contingent departed for Fort Wainwright, Alaska, to participate in the 21st iteration of the Indo–US Joint Military Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2025 from 1st to 14th September 2025.
This year, the exercise will see the involvement of a battalion of the Madras Regiment from India, while the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment "Bobcats" of the Arctic Wolves Brigade Combat Team, 11th Airborne Division (US Army) will be the US representative.
During two weeks, troops from both countries will train shoulder-to-shoulder on a broad range of operational drills. The drill will cover heliborne operations, mountain combat, rock craft, evacuation of the wounded, combat first aid, and coordinated employment of artillery, aviation resources, and electronic warfare systems. Training will also emphasize the use of surveillance technologies and unmanned aerial systems in contemporary warfare.
In addition to the operational aspect, Indian and US subject-matter experts will conduct working groups where they will share knowledge on topics like counter-drone operations, information warfare, communications systems, and logistics management.
The culmination of the combined drill will be elaborate tactical maneuvers involving live-fire exercises and high-altitude warfare exercises. The focus will be on enhancing interoperability in the context of United Nations peacekeeping operations and improving joint readiness against emerging multi-domain security threats.
Yudh Abhyas is among the largest joint military exercises between India and the United States, reflecting increasing defence cooperation and strategic tie-up between the two countries.
