The Vice-Admiral further disclosed that the Navy and the Directorate General, DG of Shipping, of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, had signed a memorandum of understanding. This MoU would permit Agniveers and other Indian Navy officers, sailors, and aspirants to serve in and join the Merchant Navy as soon as their training for the initial period of four years is finished.
