Established with the motto of Unity and Discipline, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) is one of the premier youth organizations of India. NCC is headquartered in New Delhi and it is also the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces, comprising the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, and the Indian Navy. Its major objective is to develop in youth the feeling of patriotism and the ideals of selfless service to contribute to the Unity and Integrity of the Nation. 

 

 

NCC is also entrusted towards the development of the quality of character, discipline, training, sports and adventures, leadership traits, and patriotic feeling among youth which motivate them to build a career in the Indian Armed Forces. In this article, we will discuss in detail about career guidance and the job opportunities available for the NCC Cadets. 

 

How to Join the National Cadet Corps (NCC)

 

Joining NCC is voluntary and a willing student whether a boy or a girl from any school or college can join the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Following are the eligibility criteria that must be fulfilled by the candidates who aspire to become an NCC Cadet. 

 

  • Must be a Citizen of India or a subject of Nepal 

  • Student should have a good moral character 

  • He/She must be enrolled in an educational institution 

  • Students should meet the prescribed medical standards

  • Age limit to join the Junior Division/Wing - 12 to 18½ years

  • Age limit to join the Senior Division/Wing - Maximum 26 years

 

NCC Certificate and its Advantages

 

The duration of the NCC training is 2 years for the Junior Wings and 3 years for the Senior Wings and the NCC certificates are awarded in three categories as mentioned below. 

 

  • NCC 'A' Certificate: It is awarded to the cadets of Junior Division/Junior Wings of NCC after attending a minimum of 75% of total training periods. A candidate must also have attended one Annual Training Camp to get eligible to obtain the certificate. 

 

  • NCC 'B' Certificate: It is awarded to the cadets of Senior Division/Senior Wings of NCC after successful completion of two years of training with 75% attendance. A candidate must also have attended one Annual Training Camp to get eligible to obtain the certificate. The candidates possessing the NCC 'A' Certificate will be awarded 10 bonus marks. 

 

  • NCC 'C' Certificate: To get this certificate, a cadet must be in the third year of the Senior Division/Senior Wing of NCC and must have attended a minimum of 75% of total training periods laid down in the syllabus. The cadet must be in possession of the NCC 'B' Certificate to be eligible to get the NCC 'C' Certificate. 

 

Job Opportunities for NCC Cadets 

 

DEFENCE BENEFITS

For the candidates who aspire to join the defence forces, NCC certificate helps them to gain many extra benefits.is a golden opportunity.

 

1.  CDSE (Men):

If a candidate clears his CDSE and subsequent SSB, he will have the following reservation in various academies. A separate merit list is prepared for NCC cadets with ’C’ certificate. In the below mentioned image you may find the reservation criteria.

 

2.  Special Entry (Men and Women):

OTA Chennai – 50 vacancies (including both men and women) for ‘C’ certificate every 6 Months. (non tech)

AFA Hyderabad – 10% vacancies reserved for ‘C’ certificate Air Wing holders in all courses through.

 

3. Weightage is given to candidates holding NCC Certificate during Various defence recruitment Interviews like AFMC, MNS etc.

 

4. Recruitment as Jawan:

If a candidate wants to join the defence as as Soldier GD/CLK/SKT/TECH/TDN cat, he will be eligible for the award of following benefits:

‘A’ cert      

05 marks (GD)  

05 marks (CLK/SKT/TECH)

05 marks (tdn)

 

‘B’ cert      

10 marks (GD) 

10 marks (CLK/SKT/TECH) 

10 marks (tdn)

 

‘C’ cert: Holders of ‘C’ cert and who have participated in republic day parade will be exempted from CEE for rect sol clk /skt, sol tech and sol NA cat and will be awarded 100% marks in lieu of CEE.

 

OTHER BENEFITS OF ‘C’ CERTIFICATE

  • ·         For ORs, Sailors, Airmen: 5 to 10 % bonus marks awarded for recruitment.

  • ·         Para Military Forces: 2 to 10 bonus marks awarded for recruitment

  • ·         Department of telecommunication: Bonus marks awarded for recruitment

  • ·         CRPF: NCC cadets holding 3rd division degree eligible for recruitment to gazetted posts.

  • ·         NCC: Recruitment as  Civilian Gliding instructors/Girl Cadet Instructors/ Whole Time Lady Officers.

  • ·         State Govts: Preference for State Services in certain States.

  • ·         Pvt. Industry: Some industries give preference to NCC C certificate holders for various jobs related with the field of security.

  • ·         NCC Games: Cash awards to teams and individuals for excellence.
