Nishkal Dwivedi Wins Sword of Honour

Dehradun, 2025- Indian Military Academy celebrated its 155th Passing Out Parade that marked the end of rigorous training for officer cadets from 157 Regular, 140 Technical Graduate, 55 Special Commission, and 46 E-Courses. While mentioning the bright achievements, the IMA's highest award, the Sword of Honour, given for all-round excellence, was bestowed on Tejaskirti M Sachdeva, who would be commissioned into the Mechanised Infantry Regiment, but Academic Cadet Adjutant Nishkal Dwivedi did the proud act.

What the Sword of Honour means

The Sword of Honour is given to the cadet who excels in all areas: military training, academics, sports, and extracurricular activities. It is a feather in the cap at IMA recognition for discipline, leadership, courage, and dedication. This tradition goes back to 1934, setting the standard for excellence and professionalism at the academy.

Nishkal Dwivedi managed to earn this award by working hard, persisting in all tasks with the best efforts, and showing exemplary conduct. This makes him stand out from a highly competitive batch. The achievement itself is thus not only a matter of personal success but also a contribution in terms of values towards the Indian Army.

Passing Out Parade Highlights

The Passing Out Parade was held at the IMA Parade Ground, where cadets showcased perfect drills, marched in sync, and performed with precision, all under the guidance of Parade Commander Lt. Col. Raghav Swaroop Gupta. The IMA band and ceremonial units added to the grandeur of the event.

The ceremony was also attended by senior officials, including Lt. Gen. Nagendra Singh, Commandant of IMA, and Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff.

Key moments of the event included:

  • Sword of Honour awarded to Cadet Nishkal Dwivedi.
  • One Gold Medal for the cadet topping the overall merit list.
  • Other awards include Silver and Bronze Medals, Technical Entry, and Special Commission Officers.

Significance of the Achievement

The winning of the Sword of Honour is not a personal milestone but an acknowledgement of exceptional leadership, mental sharpness, and physical fitness. Nishkal's achievement is a reflection of the training, guidance, and values that IMA inculcates into its cadets in grooming them for service to the nation as capable and confident officers.

This recognition is also a great motivator for the cadets who will come in the future, showing them what a little dedication and hard work can achieve.

IMA’s Legacy of Excellence

IMA was established on 1 October 1932. Since its inception, the IMA has trained officers who have served with distinction in various parts of India as well as abroad. The graduates of IMA have been awarded some of the highest military honours of the country, including the Param Vir Chakra, Ashoka Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and others.

Today, the Sword of Honour is still a symbol of excellence that relates cadets like Nishkal Dwivedi to the proud tradition of leadership and service.
