X & Y Group Complete Selection Process - Eligibility | Syllabus | Exam Pattern

The Air Force X and Y Group examination is conducted by the Indian Air Force's Central Airmen Selection Board (CASB) to recruit qualified candidates into various trades. Candidates who want to join the Indian Air Force as airmen can apply for this exam immediately after finishing the 10+2 exam. The X Group of the Air Force is mostly composed of technical positions, whereas the Y Group is made up of both technical and non-technical positions. Candidates who pass the Air Force X and Y Group Exam are assigned to specific trades based on their performance at the Basic Training Institute in Belgaum during the Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT). Air Force X and Y Group Eligibility Criteria 

 

Nationality: All unmarried male citizens of India and Nepal are eligible to apply online for posts as Airmen in Group 'X' Trades (excluding Education Instructor Trade) and Group 'Y' [excluding IAF(S) and Musician Trades] in the Indian Air Force.

 

Educational Qualification 

 

  • Group ‘X’ (Except Education Instructor Trade): Candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination with Mathematics, Physics and English with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

  • Group ‘Y’ [Except IAF(S) and Musician Trades]: Candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination in any stream with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. 

  • Group ‘Y’ Medical Assistant Trade Only: Candidates should have passed the 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. 

 

Age Limit: The minimum age to apply for the X and Y Group is 17 years and the upper age limit is 21 years. 

 

Air Force X and Y Group Selection Process 

 

The Air Force X and Y Group selection process is divided into three phases which are as follows.

Stage III:

Medical Examination

 

  • Eligible candidates will receive provisional admit card for Phase I of testing on their registered e-mail ids prior to the examination to participate in the screening test, which will be conducted online.

  • A cut-off will be applied based on the marks scored by the candidates in the Phase I Test, and qualified candidates will be sent a new admit card for the Phase II test at a designated Airmen Selection Center.

  • When appearing for the selection test, candidates must bring the documents listed on phase II admit card, which will be verified prior to the start of Phase – II to determine candidacy.

  • On a set date, shortlisted candidates will be invited to a designated airmen selection venue for a Physical Fitness Test (PFT), which will consist of a 1.6 km run, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, and 20 squats to be completed in the allotted time.

  • All candidates who pass the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) will be required to complete the Adaptability Test-I, an objective type written test that evaluates a candidate's preparedness for employment that requires deployment in a variety of geographic topography, weather, and operating situations.

  • All candidates who pass the Adaptability Test I will be required to take the Adaptability Test II, which will be used to select individuals who can adapt to the Indian Air Force's environment and integrate into the military lifestyle.

  • Candidates who pass the Adaptability Test-II will receive a medical appointment letter to confirm their medical examination at a designated Medical Boarding Center (MBC) on a specific date.

 

Air Force X and Y Group Syllabus 

 

The Air Force X and Y Group exam consists of several subjects including English, Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA), Physics, and Mathematics. A candidate has the option to choose his preference in the online application form for the Group he wants to be a part of during the online examination. It can be either X Group, Y Group or both X and Y Groups. The subject choices differ as per the preference of the candidates over a particular group. The detailed information regarding the X and Y Group syllabus and exam pattern is given below. 

 

  • Candidates applying for the X Group need to attempt only English, Physics and Mathematics papers.

  • Candidates applying for the Y Group need to attempt only English and Reasoning and General Awareness (RAGA). 

  • Candidates applying for both X and Y Groups need to attempt English, Physics, Mathematics and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA).
