Join The Army Dental Corps as A Short Service Commissioned Officer
The Indian Army has released the notification for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Army Dental Corps 2025. This is a golden opportunity for Indian citizens, both men and women, who are qualified dental surgeons (BDS or MDS degree holders). The job offers an exciting career in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), with duties across India and sometimes abroad as per requirement.
Applications are invited from civilian dental surgeons who have completed their final BDS exams and compulsory internship. Postgraduate degree holders (MDS) can also apply. The recruitment process is conducted under the Ministry of Defence and managed by the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS).

Vacancies
There are 30 vacancies available in the Army Dental Corps for 2025. Selection will be purely based on merit, and there is no reservation for any category.
Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.

Age Limit: Maximum 45 years as on 31 December 2025.

Education:
-
BDS or MDS degree from a DCI-recognized college/university.
-
Minimum 55% marks in the final BDS for BDS candidates.
-
Completed one-year internship by 30 June 2025 (with exceptions for older batches).
-
Must have a valid Dental Registration Certificate up to 31 December 2025.

Must have appeared in NEET (MDS) 2025.

Selection Process

Shortlisting: Based on NEET (MDS) 2025 scores (1:10 ratio).

Interview: Conducted in New Delhi. The final merit list is based on the interview only.

Medical Exam: Mandatory for shortlisted candidates.

Travel Allowance: First-time interviewees get train/bus fare reimbursement as per rules.
Medical & Physical Standards

Medical fitness: Examined by AFMS medical boards. Unfit candidates can appeal. Pregnant candidates will be declared temporarily unfit.

Men: 157 cm (152 cm for hill/Northeast candidates).

Women: 152 cm (147 cm for hill/Northeast candidates).

Weight: Should match height and age.

Tattoos: Allowed only as per Army rules.
Service Conditions

Rank on joining: Captain.
-
Tenure: 5 years, extendable up to 14 years.

Probation: 1 year.
-
Promotion: Up to Lt Colonel (time scale).

Training: At AMC Centre & College, Lucknow.

Permanent Commission: Can apply after 2 years of service (age limits: 30 years for BDS, 35 years for MDS).

Employability: Can be posted in Army, Navy, or Air Force units anywhere in India.
Pay & Benefits

Salary: Rs. 61,300 – 1,20,900 (Level 10B) + Rs. 15,500 MSP + 20% NPA.

Allowances:

HRA/DA (based on posting city).

Field/High Altitude allowance (if posted).

Dress allowance: Rs. 20,000 yearly.

Transport allowance: Rs. 7,200 (metro) / Rs. 3,600 (others) + DA.

Education allowance: Rs. 2,250 per child (up to 2).

PG allowance: Rs. 2,250 (for MDS).

Other facilities: Free medical treatment, subsidized loans, insurance (Rs. 1 crore), rations, canteen, housing, and 80 days of leave (60 annual + 20 casual).
