A Historic Moment in Indian Military History
The Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun, is set to witness a landmark moment on 13 June 2026 when eight women cadets will become the first female officers to pass out from the academy through the prestigious NDA–IMA route. This marks a major milestone in the history of the Indian Army and the journey of women in the armed forces.
The Journey Began with NDA's First Women's Batch
The story of these trailblazing cadets began in 2022 when the National Defence Academy (NDA) admitted its first batch of women candidates following a landmark Supreme Court decision. Out of the women who joined NDA's 148th Course, seventeen successfully completed their three-year training, and eight opted to join the Indian Army. They entered IMA Dehradun in July 2025 for their final year of pre-commission training.

Training Without Any Concessions
Since joining IMA, these cadets have undergone the same rigorous training as their male counterparts.
Their training included:
- Physical endurance exercises
- Drill and weapon training
- Tactical exercises
- Field craft and military leadership
- Academic and professional military education
There were no separate standards or special concessions. Their successful completion of training demonstrates that leadership, determination, and resilience are not defined by gender.
Passing Out Parade on 13 June 2026
The historic Passing Out Parade (POP) will take place at the iconic Chetwode Drill Square of the Indian Military Academy. President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Droupadi Murmu, is expected to review the parade.
During the ceremony, the women cadets will take the famous "Antim Pag" (Final Step) and will be commissioned as Lieutenants in the Indian Army alongside their male coursemates.

A Milestone for Gender Integration
While women officers have served with distinction through the Officers Training Academy (OTA) for years, this is the first time women will be commissioned into the regular Army through the NDA–IMA pathway, traditionally considered the most prestigious route to becoming a permanent commission officer.
Their achievement reflects the Indian Army's evolving approach towards greater inclusivity and equal opportunity.
An Inspiration for Future Aspirants
The success of these eight cadets sends a powerful message to young women across the country. Their journey proves that with determination, discipline, and hard work, any aspiring candidate can achieve the dream of becoming an Army officer.
For thousands of NDA, CDS, and AFCAT aspirants, these women have become symbols of courage, perseverance, and excellence.

Conclusion
On 13 June 2026, these eight women cadets will not just march out of IMA Dehradun as commissioned officers—they will make history. Their achievement represents a new chapter in the Indian Army's journey and will inspire generations of future officers to come.
