Recruitment process to select Airmen for Group X & Y is begun by Indian Air Force. Selections in the IAF Group X and Y Trades are done by the Central Airman Selection Board (CASB) which enrolls Airmen through All India Selection Tests (AIST) and Recruitment Rallies. selection process of Air force Group X & Y, 2020 will help students understand the steps involved in the overall recruitment procedure.      

 

Air Force Selection Procedure

The selection procedure for Airmen recruitment is conducted in three phases:

  • - Phase-I is an Online Written Test.
  • - Phase-II is a Physical Fitness Test (PFT) along with Adaptability Test-1 & Adaptability Test-2.
  • - Phase-III is a Medical Fitness Test.

All the successfully registered candidates will appear for Phase-I through an online test, and then candidates are shortlisted for Phase-II at Airmen Selection Centre of IAF. Clearing Phase II makes them eligible to appear for Phase III which includes the medical examination. All those candidates who have cleared the medical are then shortlisted on the basis of marks and based on that a merit list is made i.e. AIST. The candidates whose name is mentioned in the merit list are issued a call letter and enrolled in the Indian Air Force.

Crisp and concise information on Selection procedure phase-wise is listed below:

 

Phase I of Air force Group X & Y 2020:

The Phase I consists of an All India Selection Test for Group 'X' trades (Except Education Instructor trade) and Group 'Y' trades {except Auto Tech, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician Trades} highlights for test includes:

  • - Syllabus of the examination will be of 10+2 CBSE Standard.
  • - Online computer-based exam in bilingual language (both English and Hindi)
  • - Conducted from 19 March 2020 to 23 March 2020
  • - Sectional cutoff for all the subjects in addition to an overall cutoff
  • - Candidates have to qualify in each paper separately in their respective groups.
  • - The result of Phase-I examination will be uploaded on www.airmenselection.cdac.in within 15-20 days from the date of online exams.

Phase II of Air force Group X & Y 2020:

The Phase II consists of Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for Group 'X' trades (Except Education Instructor trade) and Group 'Y' trades {except Auto Tech, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician Trades} highlights for test includes:

  • - 1.6 Km run in 6 minutes 30 seconds,
  • - 20 squat ups (UthakBaithak)
  • - 10 sit ups
  • - 10 Push-ups

 

Note– PFT will be qualifying only. There are no marks assigned to PFT. Candidates are to qualify this only.

 

Qualifying candidates in Physical Fitness Test (PFT) shall have to undertake Adaptability Test-1. It is basically the test of Situation Reaction which is an objective type written test. There will be 45 SRTs which a candidate has to complete within 30 minutes and also newly introduced  DFT (Dynamic Factor Test) is conducted which contains 20 Questions of basic grammar to be completed within 15 minutes. .

All candidates who pass Adaptability Test - 1 shall have to undertake Adaptability Test- 2, it is basically the test of Group discussion to select candidates who can adapt to the environment of Indian Air Force and are able to adjust to the military way of life.

After clearing Phase II, shortlisted candidates are given green cards with the dates and venue of the medical examinations to appear for Phase III.

 

Phase III of Air force Group X & Y 2020:

The Phase III consists of Medical Fitness Test for Group 'X' trades (Except Education Instructor trade) and Group 'Y' trades {except Auto Tech, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician Trades}. Medical Examination shall be conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards and policy in vogue on subject issue. Medical fitness is checked and ensured whether a candidate is fit to serve the Indian Air Force or not.

Medical examination would also include baseline investigation of:-

  • - Blood Haemogram - Hb, TLC, DLC
  • - Urine RE/ME
  • - Biochemistry :- (i) Blood Sugar Fasting & PP (ii) Serum Cholesterol (iii) Urea, Uric acid, Creatinine (iv) LFT—Serum Bilurubin, SGOT, SGPT
  • - X- Ray chest (PA view)
  • - ECG (R)
  • - Tests for Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance Abuse
  • - Any other test necessary in the opinion of the Medical Officer

 

After passing all the above tests Central Airmen Selection Board prepares All India Select List (AISL) based on the marks secured by the candidates in the examination procedure. The candidates whose name is mentioned in the merit list are issued a call letter and enrolled in the Indian Air Force with Joint Basic Training being carried out at Belgaum Karnataka.
