Tata Indra Deliver Advanced Naval Air Surveillance Radar to Navy

Tata Advanced Systems & Indra Commission Indigenous Lanza-N Radar for Indian Navy - A Landmark in Naval Surveillance

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), in partnership with Spanish defence leader Indra, has successfully implemented and deployed a state-of-the-art 3D Air Surveillance Radar (3D-ASR) for the Indian Navy. The radar, Lanza-N, has been completely integrated onto an Indian warship of the Indian Navy after prolonged sea trials, marking the first instance of such an advanced naval surveillance system being both made and installed in India. With this feat, TASL becomes the first Indian company to showcase the capability of indigenous integration of a next-generation radar system.

The Lanza-N radar was subjected to intense testing against various aerial and sea threats, such as drones, supersonic jets, anti-radiation missiles, and surface ships. Its integration with the combat management and surveillance systems of the ship increases the Navy's maritime domain awareness and operational readiness tremendously.

For its sustained production, TASL has established a dedicated radar assembly, integration, and testing facility in Karnataka, which will increase future deliveries and enhance India's self-reliance in defence technology.

Sukaran Singh, CEO & MD of TASL, highlighted the long-term vision of the program:

"By localisation, supply chain building, and indigenous skills, we are building sophisticated defence solutions that enhance India's naval prowess."

Seconding the sentiment, Ana Buendia, Indra's Naval Business Unit Head, emphasized that the project goes beyond radar delivery:

"By forming an alliance with TASL, we have set up a facility to manufacture the radar in Bengaluru, with the advantage of shorter production lead times and persistent support for the Indian Navy."

The deployment of the Lanza-N radar beyond Spain for the first time is a milestone in history. This cutting-edge long-range, three-dimensional tactical surveillance system is a major step in India's naval modernisation push, adding strength to the country's quest for defence indigenisation and maritime supremacy.
