The Air Force Common Admission Test, commonly known as the AFCAT exam, is conducted twice a year by the Indian Air Force to recruit eligible candidates for the notified vacancies. Once the candidates clear the AFCAT written exam, they are shortlisted for the next round of the selection process that consists of the AFSB Testing followed by a medical test, and finally the declaration of the All-India merit list. The AFSB Testing, commonly known as the Air Force Selection Board Testing, is a psychological & personality test conducted to ascertain the suitability, and potential of the young aspirants as an officer in the Indian Air Force.

 

The Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interviews the AFCAT qualified candidates at any one of the AFSB located at Varanasi, Dehradun, Gandhinagar, and Mysuru. The AFSB conducts a 5-6 days long comprehensive psychological test that comprises two stages of testing as described below.

 

AFSB Stage-I Testing

The AFSB Stage-I testing is basically a screening test by which the candidates are shortlisted for the next round of testing. Those candidates who qualify for the AFSB Stage-I testing are eligible to undergo the Stage-II testing. Contrary to it, the Stage-I disqualified candidates are sent back to their homes after the declaration of the results of the screening test on the same day. The AFSB Stage-I consists of the following tests.

 

  • - Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) Test
  • - Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT)

AFSB Stage-II Testing

All those candidates who qualify for the AFSB Stage-I test successfully will undergo various tests as part of AGSB Stage-II testing during the next four to five days. The candidates who have applied for the flying branch will also have to undergo a Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test on the last day. Those candidates who are recommended by the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) will be sent for the medical examination. The medical examination will be conducted either at the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru, or the Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi. The tests conducted by the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) in Stage-II testing are as follows.

 

  • - Psychological Tests conducted by a Psychologist
  • - Group Tests including Indoor and Outdoor Activities
  • - Personal Interview by an Interviewing Officer
  • - Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) Testing for Flying Branch Candidates
