Air Force Exam Question Pattern

A long queue awaits every year to mark their footsteps in Indian Air Force.

As grand as the name, Indian Air Force is a crucial part of Indian Armed Forces endowed with honor and tribute from all corners of the world. Its motto is ‘touch the sky with glory’ and the objective is to protect India’s wartime affairs through aerial services. I.A.F has upgraded its stock of equipments and achievements recently and is enriching day by day.

For those who want to join I.A.F there are 2 pathways: AFCAT and Airmen X and Y group exam. While the former includes all positions especially Officers rank the latter includes only Airmen position in technical and non- technical category. Happy to know there 2 mediums? Good. Now grab some more information about the pattern and essential notions put up in these 2 exams because prior knowledge is must when appearing for any competition:

AFCAT is held twice a year. It is conducted all over the nation in online mode. The exam duration is of 2 hours while the total number of questions are 100 and total marks, 300. There is negative marking of 1 mark for an incorrect answer.

The sections included in AFCAT are: general awareness; verbal ability; numerical ability; reasoning+ military aptitude.

The level of AFCAT is comparatively easy to SSC and other competitive exams but it still requires thorough study of the subjects from the following point of view:

Numerical Ability- In here the core topics to prepare are decimal fraction, simplification, average, profit & loss, percentage, ratio & proportion and simple interest. Only practice and clarification of basic concepts can make you succeed this portion.

Verbal Ability- Verbal ability, in other words, English centers upon comprehension, error detection, sentence completion, synonyms, antonyms and testing of vocabulary. What is tested here is a basic level of English required in today’s world. Do not only study and practice these concepts but also make English a daily part of your life by communicating in the same medium.

General Awareness- Unlike the name the subject is wide and incorporates an array of topics such as: history, sports, geography, environment, civics, basic science, Defence, art, culture, current affairs, and politics.

Mind you the level is simple so do not go into depth. Do memorize important facts and figures; historical achievements; notable personalities; awards; geographical phenomenon etc.

When talking about current affairs do get habitual of regular reading of newspaper. Special focus must be laid on Indian news and events and do pay attention to Indian Defence issues as questions come from Military Aptitude section as well.

Remember the next medium? Let me remind you its name: Airman X and Y group exam. The topics incorporated here are:

Group X- English, Mathematics and Physics.

Group Y- English, Reasoning+ General Awareness

Group X and Y combined- English, Physics, Mathematics, Reasoning and General Awareness.

The level of all these topics is of 10+2. Exam of Group X is held for 60 minutes while that of Y group is held for 45 minutes and X+Y combined is for 85 minutes. Add to that 0.25 negative mark for one wrong answer also exists.

The tip here is simply to do well in your 10+2 level of education. Polish it, revise it and produce the same in Airmen exam. To get the best study material for clearing Indian Air Force entrance exam follow the link: www.defenceguru.co.in.
