Personal Interview Questions for Fresher Candidates in SSB Interview
It is said that the first attempt in SSB is the golden attempt for SSB because the chances of recommendation in your first attempt are the highest. The chances of recommendation are higher in the first attempt because, in the first attempt, you will be a part of the fresher's group during screening. It will be easy for freshers to qualify for screening because the fish market in SSB rarely happens. Assessors too do not have higher expectations from freshers, that’s why the chances of recommendation are higher in the first attempt. But, being fresher you are not aware of the nature of SSB. One of the most important things that most freshers take lightly is the personal interview. Personal Interview is the ‘heart and soul’ of the SSB, excelling in this part will require thorough practice efforts. Through this article, we are going to tell you about the questions which can be asked from the freshers with sample answers.
1. Tell us about yourself and your background. (Here you have to tell about your educational and family background)
Answer- Sir, My name is Rohan Tripathi and I am currently pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science from NIT, Allahabad. I belong to Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and there are five members in my family. My father is serving in the Indian Army as a Havildar and my mother is a housewife. I have two siblings and both are in school.
2. Why did you choose to apply for the Indian Army? (Here you have to tell about the motivation behind applying for the Indian Army, Do not tell that salary is your motivation)
Answer- Sir, As I told you that my father is serving in the Indian Army as a havildar and he has always been my motivation. Watching him wearing the olive green uniform of the Indian Army always used to fascinate me. I have lived in many places of army facilities that’s why I have seen the Indian Army very closely. The sense of discipline, respect, and adventurous atmosphere have motivated me to join the Indian Army.
3. Why do you want to become an officer only in the Indian Army, Why not a soldier? (Here do not say that officers get better facilities or higher salaries)
Answer- While living in different army facilities I had seen the working of officers of the Indian Army. Their leadership role and their custom to lead the front always have been the center of motivation for me.
4. How do you keep yourself physically and mentally fit?
Answer- Sir, I have been captain of my football team and football is my favorite sport. Playing football keeps me physically fit. Apart from playing football, I do not do anything else to keep myself fit. I never felt the need to do anything for my mental health. I am a social person and I like to meet with friends and share my things with them.
5. Have you ever held any role of leadership in your school or college?
Answer- Yes, Sir I already mentioned that I was captain of my school football team. As a football team captain, I won many inter-school sports events. I used to motivate my team and our motivation was one of the most important factors that had helped us to win so many times.
6. Have you ever faced any stressful situation? How did you handle that stressful situation?
Answer- Yes Sir, I faced a very stressful situation when I faced a penalty shootout against a very good team. My two best players were injured and they were unable to take a penalty. During this situation, I asked my other members to calm down and take it as a normal penalty only. I asked them to do their best and also told them about the weakness of the goalkeeper. We won that match 3-2. This was one of the most stressful situations of my life.
7. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Answer- Teamwork is one of my most important strengths. As a captain of my football team and as a leader of many engineering projects, I have improved a lot in my teamwork. My physical fitness is also one of my strengths. My physical strength has helped me to face many challenges in my life. If I talk about my weakness, I think my over-friendly nature lands me in trouble. Sometimes,
9. What are your short-term and long-term goals in the military?
Answer- My short-term goal is to prepare well for my CDS exam and qualify in my first attempt only. I have already qualified for a written exam and now am totally focused on performing well in my SSB. If I talk about my long-term goal, I want to join 11 Gorkha Rifles and serve till my retirement. After my retirement, I want to start my organic farm business.
10. What are your hobbies and interests outside of academics or work?
Answer- Football is my hobby. I am deeply interested in playing football. I have been playing this sport since my school days. If I talk about my interests, I am interested in organizing events and geopolitics. During my school and college, I have organized various school events such as farewell parties and sports events. I am also interested in geopolitics. I like to know what is going on in different countries and how these things are going to impact the rest of the world.
Candidates must keep in mind that the first attempt is the golden opportunity to get recommended. Personal Interview largely decides whether you are going to be recommended or not. Because it is only in the personal interview, you are evaluated very closely. In a personal interview, your strengths and weaknesses are discussed in detail. PIQ (Personal Information Questionnaire) is the base of a personal interview, so it is very important that candidates fill it out very carefully. Most of the questions asked in the SSB Interview will be based on your PYQ form only, so do not forget to practice for questions that can be asked from your PYQ form. It is very important to remain honest in the personal interview because your lies will be caught. But being over-honest may cost you dearly as well. So, It is important to provide the right and accurate information to the interviewing information to increase the chances of recommendation.
